"The Netizen"
daily illustrations

Design Director: Jonathan Louie
Designer/Illustrators: Anna McMillan & Kevin Lyons

When Wired launched in the fall of 1994, it was a static site. If you came back to see it a month later, it was basically the same. So why go back again? Its revenue model, advertising, would only be profitable with eyeballs visiting... or revisiting. How to make people come back? Offer daily engaging content. The Web's agenda as Wired saw it was to subvert mainstream media and its elitism. The Netizen aimed to be the voice of the people, a smart opinionated and dissatisfied with politics as usual people. People as independant and defiant as the web itself, whose voices more often than not, had been ghettoized to Opinion pages. No more.
