| The High Route The World's most famous ski-tour | I first heard of it when I was 14. Since then I've trained for it. You ski and slog across the rooftop of the Alps starting in France at the highest peak in Europe, Mt.Blanc. It winds up and down | mountain passes through Switzerland. Hut-to-rugged-hut each nightfall, you zig-zag up and over each pass, tracing razor sharp pas-du-chat or catwalks, while searching | always for la glisse -- "slide" for the skis. Dipping pronto across the Italian border for just a nose bleed before being humbled at the terminus by the other icon of the Alps, the Matterhorn. |  | |||||||
